Pasta for Days: What to Make in the Apartments

By Erin Lin on September 8, 2014

It’s been a long day and you have an incredible amount of homework due but your stomach’s been growling for hours and of course you haven’t had the time to buy groceries. You’re not in the mood for frozen food or microwavable leftovers that your roommate cooked for the three of you two nights ago. In situations like these, especially for those new apartment living students, the easiest and fastest way to eat and feel like you aren’t a grungy college student on a limited budget is pasta, pasta and some more pasta.

This may or may not be from personal experience, but when in doubt: pasta.

I’m going to skip the obvious spaghetti and meatballs; you guys came here for ideas, not things you already know about.

First one on the list: Pasta Carbonara.

You can chop up the bacon and fry it in the pan if you like and add some parsley, oregano or basil to spice up the flavor. Don’t forget to season it with salt and pepper. Or, you can do what I do and just buy Carbonara sauce from the store and heat it up and boil the noodles. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Garlic Pasta

Take a clove of garlic and crush it in little, itty-teeny-bitty bits. Olive oil that pan, toss in the noodles and the garlic. Saute it and lightly dust some parmesan cheese as well as salt and pepper for taste. Man, I cannot wait until I take on Food Network with my awesome recipe descriptions.

Pesto Pasta

Put as much pesto as you like and olive oil your noodles while in the pan. Some cheese of your choice as well as diced tomatoes if you prefer that in your meal. Salt and pepper that bad boy and add an onion for extra effort.

Alright guys, I’m not that creative with food and I wish you the best in all your endeavors. Honestly, unless you’re really interested in how to cook well or you are striving to end up being on the same cooking level as your grandma these next couple years, there’s only so much you can do in the kitchen. And if all else fails, cereal your breakfast, lunch and dinner.
